When the other Recruits tell Medix he's a "stick in the mud," he enlists Chase to help him learn how to loosen up. But Medix's newfound sense of humor threatens a rescue and his value to the team.
Synopsis
[edit]Hoist stops a driver from coming to calamity in a snow-covered Griffin Rock. Chase asks him and Wedge to join Medix directing traffic at the bridge. With the bridge under control, the trio go to join Hot Shot and Whirl, at which point a snowball fight breaks out. Medix protests that they're still on duty and the others think he's a killjoy. Medix is bugged by this and later asks Whirl which the problem is — she suggests he loosen up and have fun. Finding Medix attempting to loosen up, Chase reveals he used to be a stick in the mud but Cody helped him develop a sense of humor. Medix asks him for help.
Chase's lessons cover laughter and include getting Tough Luck Chuck to demonstrate pratfalls. His demonstrations of being laid back and cool are followed by suggestions that Medix use props such as juggling balls, lampshades, and seltzer bottles. Medix still doesn't quite understand why these things are funny but can see how others could. He returns to the other recruits and tries out a pratfall, however his new behavior mainly serves to befuddle the others.
The recruits roll out to Griffin Rock again in response to an alarm — some power lines are down. Medix's attempts at comedy continue as they try to start the rescue, much to the frustration of the other recruits. When he is confused that they're not happier about his new fun-loving self, they explain that there's a time for that and a time for rescuing. Everything straightened out, they deal with the downed power line and Medix slips over again, though this time, as he explains, it wasn't on purpose.
