When Whirl struggles with a tricky maneuver, she doubts her place on the team. Reassuring her, Blades mentions a distant Rescue Bot Guru who once helped him.
Synopsis
[edit]The recruits are doing an exercise in a huge crevasse, with Whirl having to fly sideways down a narrow section. Unfortunately she clips the side and ends up falling, forcing Blades to catch her with his winch. Though the other recruits reassure her that everyone makes mistakes occasionally, Whirl is determined to nail the maneuver and makes a second attempt which also fails, ending the simulation. Blades tells the dispirited Whirl that he once messed up badly too, but he went to see the "Wise One", a Rescue Bot guru who lived in a valley beyond Persistence Peak Mountain. Whirl sets off to find the Wise One.

The other recruits assemble and realize Whirl is missing, but there's a map left open with a route marked on it. Believing she's quitting the Academy, they go after her. Whirl, meanwhile, is flying over a forest when she spots a pair of foxes trapped outside their burrow by fallen branches. She flies sideways so the wash from her rotors blows the branches away, not realizing she's being secretly watched by Blades. The rest of the recruits reach the woods and are forced to continue on foot, eventually finding the fox burrow and evidence they're on the right track. Whirl encounters a pair of human hikers trapped on the side of the mountain, and has to fly sideways to get her winch close enough to pick them up.
Unable to fly over the mountain, Whirl lands and heads through the forest on foot, using her blades to clear a path through the trees. Up ahead, Blades has covered himself in vegetation, and starts practicing his "Wise One" voice. The rest of the recruits, still tracking Whirl, take a tumble into a crevasse. Whirl has just found "the Wise One" when she hears the other recruits calling for help and goes back to rescue them. With some encouragement from "the Wise One", Whirl uses her sideways maneuver successfully to one-by-one extract the other Bots from the crevasse. Blades appears sans disguise to congratulate her, with everyone none the wiser. Everyone except Hot Shot who's twigged that Blades was pretending to be the Wise One all along (thanks to a tell-tale twig on top of his head and his deep voice).
