Whatever happened to the Decepticon leader?
Synopsis
As the Ark careens toward the blue and green planet below, Megatron tears through the opposing forces of its Autobot crew. The Decepticon leader blasts a hole through Brawn's chest, causing an enraged Optimus Prime to attack him. Megatron taunts Optimus as the two trade blows, blaming him for Cybertron's destruction. Using his energon-axe, Optimus slices off Megatron's right arm, allowing him to kick Megatron towards an opening in the ship. Hanging onto the edge, Megatron orders Starscream to aid him, but the Seeker uses this opportunity to finally seize leadership of the Decepticons, blasting Megatron and sending him falling to the planet.
Awaking sometime later — and now missing both arms — in the science labs of Cobra-La, Megatron's fury finally allows him to escape the shackles of his captors, crushing a Cobra-La scientist under his foot. He demands the return of his limbs, but the surviving scientist tells him they were only able to find one. Megatron allows the scientist to live as thanks and reattaches his left arm. However, he is interrupted by the arrival of Lord Golobulus and his Royal Guard. Golobulus orders his soldiers not to let "the beast" escape. Living up to this description, Megatron savagely tears his way through the Royal Guard and Golobulus's Cobra-La creatures before Golobulus manages to stab him his remaining eye. Blinded and furious, Megatron flees from the battle by flying upwards, bursting through to the surface of the planet. Amid the snowy mountains, Megatron swears that he will find Starscream and make him pay!

Notes
Continuity notes
- This story finally reveals what happened to Megatron prior to the start of the main Transformers series. Issue #4 had previously shown Megatron frozen in ice, with the subsequently released Cobra Commander #1 revealing he was found by the people of Cobra-La and taken in to be studied.
- Considering how this story ends, with Megatron emerging into the frozen wastes, the scene from Transformers #4 either takes place after his escape from Cobra-La, having been lost in the Arctic, or between his crash landing and his discovery by Cobra.
- Megatron's dialogue hints towards the ideological conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons, something that has frequently been alluded to but not yet fully established in the main Transformers comics.
Continuity errors
- In #5, Optimus says that the last time Starscream had seen Megatron's cannon, he was 'cowering before it', though here, Starscream actually has the upper hand over Megatron.
Transformers references
- Megatron's line of "I BELONG TO NO ONE!!!" echoes what he said to Unicron in The Transformers: The Movie.
