Putting unused redirects in this category

I'm noticing that most of the pages in this category are old and unused redirects. If a redirect is not used, should it not be placed in speedy deletion? I don't expect there would be much indecision on whether to delete them, seeing that they have nothing linking to them. Thoughts? Hilfam (talk) 17:06, 24 August 2024 (EDT)

It's very likely that in many cases, an unused redirect is there for the purposes of staying in the top of the searchbar auto-suggests, a functionality tool to help people. Like if nothing links to "Prowl" or "Generations" by itself, terms that are VERY lots used in TF and start a jillion pages, it's still best to leave that not-linked-to redirect up so it's at the top of the bar so people can click on that to go to the disambiguation page without having to hope that "Prowl (disambiguation)" or whatever other parenthetical they are after is in the limited-space auto-suggest menu. Same for common alternate names, arguably far-too-common misspellings, names that have officially changed spelling too many times (freakin' Hun-Grrr), etc. --M Sipher (talk) 19:12, 24 August 2024 (EDT)
(That said, typing "Hun" into the thing... okay, yeah, THAT one we can kill a few redirects. Ain't no-one gonna remember Grr/Grrr/Gurr/Gurrr differences.) --M Sipher (talk) 19:20, 24 August 2024 (EDT)
In that case, should they be tagged for deletion in the first place? When you search the name of the redirect, it pulls up the redirect page, rather than automatically redirecting. I assume this is because they have content other than the redirect link. I think that if they are still in use for search purposes, they wouldn't need a deletion tag at all.
