A miner working in the same sector as Orion Pax and D-16 under the command of Elita-1, Wheeljack inadvertently discovered a volatile vein of purple energon that promptly exploded and caused the mineshaft to catastrophically collapse, almost killing Jazz before Orion and D-16 saved his life.

Wheeljack was present when an upgraded Orion visited the miners to rally them into rising up against Sentinel Prime. An inspiring speech from Orion convinced the miners, including Wheeljack, to take up arms and join the battle above. After Orion—now rechristened Optimus Prime—rejuvenated Cybertron's energon supply with the Matrix of Leadership and returned all the miners' transformation cogs, Wheeljack was among the crowd receiving their cogs. One

Part of the first wave of Transformers One "Cog Changers", Transformers One Wheeljack converts from Cybertronian car to robot in one easy step!

He uses the "butterfly knife" style of transformation, where his car-mode sides swing 180 degrees around to form his legs, revealing his robot arms and head.
