Talk:Beast Wars (event)
J-BW inclusion?
I don't know enough about BW2 and BWNeo to say whether they should go in this article. I kept them out because to the best of my knowledge the term "Beast Wars" is never applied to events within their fiction. That was my criteria: Everything in the article was either within the character-declared "Beast Wars" or directly related to the same. As far as I know, the Japanese stuff is neither. It exists in the same general universe but is so far removed from prehistoric Earth as to be irrelevant to this subject. Is that correct?
I contemplated putting a "Metals manga" section in, but I don't know of any events worth mentioning from that.
If anyone has any counterpoints, please share.

Razor's Edge
The main story of Razor's Edge isn't about the Beast Wars itself at all, but the framing story is, so that's why I slipped that in there. --ItsWalky 04:39, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Dating the Beast Wars
The cartoon in several places strongly implies that 1984 is 4,000,000 years in the future. Optimus tells Megatron, "We'd have four million years to scrape you off the walls." At least once someone comments that the Autobots and Decepticons will wake up "in four million years and start the Great War." Ergo, according to these comments, the cartoon takes place in 3,998,016 BC. (Well, 3,998,017 BC, since there was no "year zero" between 1 BC and 1 AD.) JW 13:33, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
- I'd always figured the Beast Warriors didn't know what year they were in, and merely gave the time gap that they knew. (We should also remember that "in four million years they wake up" was exposition, and if BA gave a smaller number, fans would have murdered Bob and Larry.) Of course, we could allow that in the Transformers universe, protohumans of that complexity and things like, say, tigers, existed roughly, uh, three million years earlier than in real life. --ItsWalky 15:22, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
- I think it's difficult to discern both authorial intent and character intent here. ("Did the writers say 4MY to make fans happy, or is that when they intended the show to be set? Did Optimus say 4MY because he believed himself to be in the year 4,000,000 BC, or was he speaking casually?") I think we gotta go with what's said on screen, and mark it as dubious if we think it's dubious.
- And every time you bring real science into a discussion about alien transforming robots, Primus kills a kittenbot. Please, think of the kittenbots! JW 15:39, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
