Deftwing is an Autobot Lightformer from the Generation 1 continuity family.
We will catch the watchful 'Cons totally offguard doing precisely what we've done 18 times before!

Astute and resourceful, Deftwing can come up with brilliant defensive strategies while soaring through the skies during battle. While mainly a defensive tactician, he is no slouch on the offensive, either. He believes that every mission must destroy its target, and it's his job to see that outcome into fruition, even if he must do it himself. His vertical takeoff and landing ability allows him to quickly launch into the air, and his visible tracer rounds, coupled with his super-accuracy, ensure he does not waste a shot.<ref>Generation 1 Deftwing packaging bio</ref>

The Official Transformers: Generation 2 Annual

[edit]

When the Decepticons attempted to turn Earth into a mobile juggernaut using giant rocket engines, Deftwing and his flying partner Jetfire joined Optimus Prime and the others in demolishing Scrapper's fiendish invention. Overhearing Megatron say the rockets would fire in 20 minutes, Deftwing and Jetfire had no choice but to fly down the inside the thruster tubes, looking for something fragile to shoot. They found the engines were drawing power from the plasma of the Earth's core, and disrupted the flow. The resulting explosion helped carry them to safety out of the mouth of the engines as they darted away. As the entire island was caught in the lava swell, Deftwing and Jetfire helped carry all earthbound Autobots to safety. Moving Day Planet Earth

The Transformers

[edit]

Never forget that I am behind you! About 35 miles behind.
  • Deftwing (Lightformer, 1993)
Available only in European markets, sold in the ninth year of the European The Transformers toyline, Lightformer Deftwing transforms into a Hawker Siddeley GR.1 Harrier fighter jet. In this mode, his large Lightformer weapon stand is mounted on the aircraft's back, functioning as a booster unit as well as a weapons system, similar to Generation 1 Jetfire. This weapon uses a combination of the light-piping and gear-wheel gimmicks so that when you look through the "viewscope" and turn the wheel beneath, as the gatling cannon rotates, the view from the scope makes it look like twin beams of laser-fire are striking your selected target (despite the unit only having one gun). The booster weapons unit has a fold-down stand to become a gun emplacement for Deftwing to man in robot mode.

Generation 2

[edit]
  • Deftwing (Lightformer, 1994)
  • Accessories: Artillery platform
This release is identical to his 1993 release, but in Generation 2 packaging, and was on a blister card instead of in a box.
