The entire Academy face an epic mission to rescue Cody's best friend, Frankie, who's trapped inside a seemingly impenetrable dome that's shrinking by the minute.
Synopsis
[edit]The recruits extol the virtues of their respective mentors, though Hot Shot is not terribly enthusiastic about his. Heatwave calls them to the GroundBridge room to brief them for a very important mission—Doc Greene was demonstrating his new force field dome to a school field trip when a student triggered the device, creating a dome over the lab which is slowly shrinking.
The group arrives on site and starts trying to work out a plan of action. Wedge's attempt at brute force fails, and when he and Bumblebee try to dig under the dome, they find it's actually a sphere. Grimlock also tries brute force, but only makes the dome shrink more. Elsewhere Hot Shot struggles to put out the fires that are flaring up until Heatwave turns off the downed power lines. Though Whirl is unable to get a reading on the sphere, Chase recalls it's constructed from a particle that may be susceptible to magnetism, so they send Medix up dangling from Blades's winch. Medix successfully opens a hole in the force field which Hoist is able to use to start extracting the children inside. They succeed in rescuing all the kids, however Frankie is still inside as her father is refusing to leave his life's work behind. Hot Shot manages to talk him out of it, and Hoist extracts him and Frankie before the sphere completely collapses, destroying the lab.
Later, the recruits are back playing basketball and Whirl expresses the sentiment that Chase is the best mentor for her, just as the other mentors are the best for the other recruits.

Quotes
[edit]"I've got an idea!" [throws himself bodily into the force field]
"Have you got any other ideas?"
- —Wedge and Bumblebee
"So much for plan B, huh H.W.? Aw come on, plan bee as in Bumblebee? Ugh, I am wasted here."
- —Hot Shot finds Heatwave to be unappreciative of his brand of humor.
"You can do it, Medix! Let's think positive thoughts!"
"Can we think 'Hurry up Hoist' thoughts instead?"
- —Blades and Medix
Notes
[edit]Continuity notes
[edit]- Hoist refers to a rescue operation in a zoo which he and Grimlock participated in. Presumably this was Griffin Rock Zoo if it was safe for Grimlock to be out in public.
- Rather than his usual "roll to the rescue", Heatwave tells the Rescue Bots to "roll out".
- This features Frankie's first appearance in Rescue Bots Academy, her last appearance being in the finale of Rescue Bots.
- Doc Greene's lab appears to be new — previously he operated out of a laboratory on the side of Mount Griffin, but this laboratory is in a wooded area.

Real-world references

Animation and technical errors
[edit]- In a couple of shots, Doc Greene's lapels don't appear to be attached to his lab coat at the bottom.
Trivia
[edit]- Autobot text on Whirl's scan of the force field reads "INFRARED", ""RCHING" and "GER" (the last two words are obscured against the force field, but are presumably "searching" and "danger").
Foreign localization
[edit]- TBA
