Q-Transformers Radio hosts a special guest from a cooking manga.
Synopsis
[edit]Optimus Prime and Bumblebee introduce a new installment of Q-Transformers Radio, with Prowl standing in for Lockdown who is taking the day off. Prowl, surprised by the lack of animation, throws out a Lockdown impression. He next introduces the day's guest, "Cooking Papa" Kazumi Araiwa. Kazumi reels off his name and place of work, which is enough to impress those present. Optimus notes he feels a lot of pressure, and Bumblebee asks Kazumi if he knows about Transformers. Kazumi calls Bumblebee an idiot, at which point Bee has to clarify he's asking Kazumi and not Kazumi's voice actor. He also points out Optimus Prime, which results in a reaction from Kazumi that causes merriment around the table. Bee complains that Optimus is a little unreliable, to which Kazumi responds that if a leader is a little unreliable, it's a good thing because it makes the team bond stronger as everyone tries to compensate. Bumblebee asks Kazumi to say "Cybertron warriors, roll out", and while their guest is hesitant, he complies, resulting in the others present being extremely impressed. Bumblebee notes it's like he's been saying it for thirty years.
As the show continues, Bumblebee asks if there was any celebration planned for the thirtieth anniversary of Cooking Papa. Kazumi reveals that the manga is being reprinted, and buying the whole set at once will also include a digital camera. Additionally there's a lottery with the main prize being a home-cooked meal with manga creator Tochi Ueyama, which the Autobots are wild about.

Notes
[edit]Continuity notes
[edit]- As with "The Road to Borrowing Popularity from Sengoku Basara", this episode features very little in the way of animation and a guest star from another franchise.
Real-world references
[edit]- Kazumi Araiwa is the protagonist of the long running manga Cooking Papa (クッキングパパ); at the time this episode aired, its 1992–95 anime adaption was rerunning to celebrate the manga's 30th anniversary. As a result, Kazumi is reprised by his actor from that series, Tesshō Genda, resulting in a lot of in-jokes and out-of-character moments about his role as the original voice of Optimus Prime.
