Whirl feels Medix is getting preferential treatment in helicopter mode but her insecurity risks both their safety during a rescue.
Synopsis
[edit]The recruits dash to the bottom of a building where Tough Luck Chuck is dangling from a window washer rig. Whirl flies up to rescue him and Medix joins her thanks to his new helicopter mode. A sudden gust as Whirl flies in causes Chuck to fall, but Medix, approaching from another angle, manages to save Chuck. The simulation ends and Whirl is deflated by her failure to rescue Chuck, despite reassurances from her teammates. Hot Shot, Wedge and Hoist find Whirl in her wind tunnel, resolving to train as she feels overshadowed by Medix. Their reassurances are cut short by a rescue alarm and Blades accompanies the recruits to deal with a fire in Crook's Canyon.
Whirl volunteers to assess the situation from the air, but Blades sends Medix instead. While the other three recruits head down to deal wit the flames, Whirl is left observing with Blades. She asks why she's been benched as the others deal with the fire, but as Blades is telling her she's not benched, Medix alerts them to a second fire. Blades sends Whirl up to help, but Medix, still struggling with the new controls, crashes into her and they both plummet to the ground. Medix realizes he can no longer switch to his helicopter mode.
The other recruits succeed in putting out the first fire, but the second is out of control. Meanwhile Whirl successfully gets Medix's helicopter mode fixed, but he's having his doubts over his choice of alternate mode, as he doesn't think he'll be as good as Whirl. Whirl realizes they've both been insecure. Blades contacts them as the fire is worsening, and Whirl has to talk Medix into having enough confidence to use his helicopter mode to get back faster. The pair make it back and start taking water from a nearby lake to put the fire out. Medix follows Whirl's lead, however Whirl gets stuck and he has to go back without her and extinguish the last of the flames. Whirl arrives back shortly afterwards, revealing she'd pretended to be stuck as she knew Medix could do it himself.
