A runaway train on Griffin Rock forces Wedge to reflect on his new vehicle form, while Heatwave, Medix and Whirl endure the comedic stylings of Mayor Luskey.

Synopsis

Transforming, Bumblebee points out that as they're in Griffin Rock, Wedge doesn't need to be in disguise, but Wedge comes up with a series of excuses why he should stay in his new car form. There's some problems with the ice sculpture contest that they've arrived at — Mayor Luskey sheepishly announces that the train he's commissioned to carry the ice hasn't turned up yet. They soon hear the sound of an approaching train, however the train speeds through the station, clearly out of control, and Bumblebee and Wedge give pursuit. Bumblebee manages to board the runaway train, but the brakes are out, so instead Wedge gets in front of the train and brings it to a halt manually.

They have a new problem: the coolant keeping the ice blocks cold has leaked away, which is what caused the brakes on "Sunflower" to fail, and the ice blocks are in danger of melting. Bumblebee suggests Wedge take a couple of blocks back using his loader alternate mode, but Wedge is set on using his sports car mode for speed. Dragging five chunks behind him, Wedge starts heading back and opts to take the road instead of the swamp.

Back at the ice contest, Luskey is trying and failing to keep everyone entertained by telling jokes. Wedge finds himself stuck in a traffic jam and decides to head into the swamp instead. Luskey runs out of jokes, but his origami routine gives Whirl an idea: they can use materials other than ice to sculpt. Meanwhile Wedge becomes stuck in the mud and has to contact Whirl. Her comment that they've come up with a plan by choosing a more suitable material causes him to realize he can use his loader mode to move through the swamp more effectively. The sculpting contest reaches the judging stage — Heatwave is dismayed his mud sculpture of Mount Botmore only got second place — as Wedge arrives with the mud-covered remains of the ice blocks he's been towing, which by coincidence now bear a striking resemblance to Mayor Luskey. Luskey awards Wedge first place and Bumblebee arrives back riding atop the train.

Quotes

"I can't really think of any more jokes, ah, but who would like to see some origami?"
"Woo! Now we're talking!"
"It's a book! Now, it's a laptop!"

Mayor Luskey's routine is popular with Jerry at least.

Notes

Continuity notes

  • Wedge gained his new car mode in "Big Wheels".
  • This is the first time Griffin Rock has been shown to have a train station, as well as an impressively long length of track for a town located on an island. It was previously shown to have a subway terminal back in "The Griffin Rock Express" used for a subway to the mainland.
  • Included in the crowd for the contest is Doc, who will play a larger part in "Rescue TEENS".
  • Heatwave's entry in the competition is of the title monument from "Mount Botmore". Though it's called "Proposed Amendments to Mount Botmore", it's unclear exactly what he's amended as it looks the same as the full sized thing!

Real-world references

Animation and technical errors

  • As Bumblebee is explaining that Wedge's new vehicle mode isn't always the right choice for a mission, the crowd that should be sitting on the benches behind them is absent, only to reappear as the camera switches to a longer shot.

Trivia

  • Though there's what appears to be Cybertronian text on the train station, it doesn't match up with any known alphabet.

Foreign localization
