Notes
- This story is an expansion of the backmatter released with the original "Nucleon Quest Super Convoy" toy. It notably is more explicit in taking place in writer Hirofumi Ichikawa's personal timeline, which largely ignores the Japanese Transformers franchise from The Headmasters onwards in favour of hewing closer to the media and toy ranges released in Hasbro's markets. As such, this story takes place in a world where the events of "The Rebirth" took place, and serves as a direct "prequel" to the story of the Action Master toys released by Hasbro in 1990. Two separate dates for Optimus Prime's "Nucleon quest" in this divergent timeline are provided by MPG-16's packaging and paperwork:
- The text of the prose story itself places the events in 2013, a date arrived at by incorporating the way that the Japanese dub of the G1 cartoon's third season skips the year forward to 2010—if 1986's toyline "takes place" in 2010, and the Nucleon Quest is akin to an imaginary 1989 prologue to 1990's Action Masters, then it would take place in 2013.
- The toy's box, meanwhile, dates the quest to 2009, while explicitly noting 2013 as the date for the "Japanese version" of events. In Hasbro's markets, the third season of the cartoon only took place in 2006 instead of 2010, hence the date for the discovery of Nucleon shifting four years earlier under this accounting. This Hasbro-focused dating system is generally the one Ichikawa has used when discussing his personal timeline with fans.
Transformers references
- The Oracle and Tornedron appear in "Call of the Primitives". The planet where the Oracle is encountered is indicated as Methuselah in the Facebook edition of Ask Vector Prime.
- Bumblebee in his Pretender form first appears in "Controverse", another Ichikawa work.
- Hydrus IV and its connection to nucleon first appear in Marvel's Transformers issue #70.
