Hello person looking at my profile, I'm StrawDeath! And this is the page where I tell you a little bit about myself!
About Me
How I became a Transformers fan
As a kid, I had access to a wide range of my parent's DVDs and VHS tapes, and watched many different shows and movies with them. Among my personal favourites, however, were a few in particular - The Prism Leisure release of G1 Season 2 Part 2, their re-release of the 1986 movie, and Maximum Entertainment's initial 2-disc set containing Volume 1 of RID 2001. I was obsessed with them, watching them over and over again, while not knowing there were any toys associated with them. Eventually, however, those DVDs got put away somewhere never to be found again (except the movie, which has since been found), and so as I grew up I gradually forgot about them as they faded into the back of my mind.
For a huge amount of time after that, Transformers simply didn't catch my attention as much as it once did. Although I watched most new cartoons as they aired, it wasn't because I favoured them in particular, but because they were simply some of many available to me at the time. A similar case applied to the movies, too. And although I occasionally received and highly enjoyed Transformers figures from various toylines, it wouldn't blossom into a full-on collection until much later.
Cut to June 2023. I was in a Smyths, I don't recall why, when something caught my eye. It was a Legacy: Evolution Beachcomber & Paradise Parakeet. Despite how long it had been since I'd watched those DVDs, I immediately recognised it from The Golden Lagoon, which as the first episode on its disc would've been the one I watched most. So I bought it. Then when I got home and experienced my first Transformers figure in a long time, something clicked. I loved it. And as to be expected from Google, this soon led to the official uploads of the G1 cartoon appearing before me in my YouTube recommendations. This was the beginning of my true journey as a Transformers fan, as from there I would go on to buy more figures and experience more media, as well as immerse myself in the community.
