Post-Timelines releases
[edit]Despite BotCon and Fun Publications ceasing official ties to the Transformer brand in 2016, the impact its exclusive toys and fiction have created are still resonating within the franchise to this day. Due to many of its material tying up loose ends or unresolved matters in past stories, BotCon-original characters and some of their alternative versions of pre-existing characters have become the default version to many people to this day.
Probably the most widely-known example of a BotCon-original series surviving long-past the official convention's lifetime is the Shattered Glass mirror universe, which has spawned an entirely new rebooted continuity written by IDW Publishing and its own miniature capsule of Hasbro Pulse-exclusive toys.
BotCon
[edit]2005
- Flamewar, the Decepticon biker girl was introduced in this year's Descent into Evil storyline. She made a reappearance in 2014's Hoist the Flag storyline and was introduced outside of Club fiction with a Prime Cyberverse repaint and in the G1 continuity as a recurring character in IDW's 2019 reboot series.
- The trademark-friendly name for Outback, "Fallback", popped up again as the character's name in the Prime Cyberverse toyline and for a Movie incarnation of the character in the Reveal the Shield toyline.
- Flareup originally began life as another trademark-friendly name for existing character Firestar, but was eventually morphed into her own distinct character. She was given a voiceover role and cameo in Transformers: Animated and some cameos in multiple IDW Publishing comic books.
2008
Okay, deep breaths.
- This year introduced the Shattered Glass franchise where the heroic Decepticons battle the evil Autobots in your standard mirror universe spiel. Beyond the general concept being explored numerous times since 2008, this year's BotCon figures would become some of the most widely known Shattered Glass decos.
- The iconic purple-and-black deco for SG Optimus would see a reappearance in the 2012 storyline and souvenir set as well as two Masterpiece figures, a 2-pack with Ratchet in Generations Selects, and numerous licensed figures, too many to list here.
- Trypticon-colored Grimlock would see another release in the Hasbro Pulse-exclusive capsule line as well as a few non-transforming figurines.
- While he hasn't returned in the form of a recolored Hot Shot (not yet, at least...), a new Goldbug showed up in the Hasbro Pulse-exclusive capsule line as a redeco and retool of Earthrise Cliffjumper.
- Though not receiving a new toy, Jazz did show up in the IDW reboot in a nigh-identical body.
- The heroic Jetfire-colored Starscream showed up in the Pulse-exclusive capsule line as well as the fourth wave of the Blokees Shining Version series of blind-boxed kits.
- Like his brother, Ricochet also showed up in IDW's rebooted Shattered Glass comic.
- A new Megatron based off the Siege version of the character was part of both the IDW reboot comic and the Pulse-exclusive capsule line alongside other non-transforming merchandise.
- Finally, Blurr would also make an appearance in the IDW reboot comic and the Pulse-exclusive capsule line as a retool of his Studio Series figure.
2010
- Shattered Glass Ravage, included as part of one of the souvenir sets, would see release as part of the Soundwave set in the Pulse-exclusive capsule along with fellow cassette Laserbeak.
2011
- The Animated incarnation of Motor Master would received a brand-new figure in the Legacy: United toyline as a new-head retool of the same line's Optimus Prime figure.
- Shattered Glass Thundercracker would later pop up in the IDW reboot comic.
2012
- Shattered Glass Ultra Magnus' skull-faced visage and Powered Convoy-colors would show up in both the IDW reboot comic and its accompanying Hasbro Pulse-exclusive capsule.
- The radical Shattered Glass Soundwave would totally pop up in both Takara's E-HOBBY exclusive store as part of a set with that bummer dude Blaster and as part of the IDW comic book reboot and its tubular Hasbro Pulse-exclusive capsule, yo.
- Shattered Glass Octopunch's usage of the 2010 Voyager Sea Spray mold would influence the design of the Earth Wars incarnation of G1 Octopunch.
2013
- Bitstream, one of the dubiously-named "Rainmakers", would show up again in IDW's 2019 rebooted continuity and (bizarrely) as part of a multi-pack of metallic figurines released by Jada Toys.
- Hotlink, another of the dubiously-named "Rainmakers", was featured in the IDW 2019 reboot continuity, the War for Cybertron trilogy cartoon and its accompanying Walmart-exclusive capsule line, and Skybound Publishing's Energon Universe.
2014
- Numerous characters from this year's storyline would be introduced in future Star Steeker-focused material, especially the Legacy: United Star Raiders capsule line.
- Pirate Captain Cannonball would be included as a redeco/retool of the Skids/Crankcase mold.
- Pirate Ferak incorporates sculpting from the BotCon design, itself a redeco of Universe (2008) Cyclonus.
- Though based on an unproduced 3H Productions-era Alpha Trion figure, this year's Alpha Trizer figure would serve as partial inspiration for both the Titans Return figure of Alpha Trion and the Transformers: One incarnation who turned into a uni-horned lion.
- Apelinq, himself a BotCon exclusive from 2000, would show up again in 2023's Rise of the Beasts film as yet another redeco of Optimus Primal.
2015
- The black Diaclone Honda City Turbo was turned into the named character Burn-Out who would go on to appear in the Legacy Velocitron Speedia 500 capsule as well as getting her own Masterpiece figure.
- Burn Out's human pilot, Dia Cinders, would also pop up as an accessory with the Masterpiece release, even getting an official surname in the figure's bio.
- Likewise, the red 4WD Hi-Lux Wrecker Type would in-turn be used as the model for Lift-Ticket who would receive a figure in the Generations Selects line and a Masterpiece figure as well.
- Though not included as an accessory, Lift-Ticket's pilot Darius Cline received a mention in the figure's bio.
- The purple-and-black colored Waruder Parasite was given an homage in the Buzzworthy Bumblebee Worlds Collide 4-pack with the inclusion of the Kingdom Waspinator mold's alternative head. Parasite was specifically shouted-out by designer Mark Maher as inspiring this accessory.
- Galva Convoy, the customization class figure for this year, is set to receive a highly-articulated non-transforming figure from Flame Toys in 2026.
2016
- Though not a BotCon-original character, the customization class Medix figure's deco was used as inspiration for the character's Legacy Evolution figure.
Ask Vector Prime
[edit]The revived Ask Vector Prime was responsible for creating and clarifying a wealth of obscure details, trivia, and tidbits about the franchise. Though most of the declarations were minor enough to go unnoticed, a few things it established wound up becoming greater parts of the Transformers canon.
- AVP canonized the names of many
- The rumor of Maccadam being the Thirteen member Alchemist Prime became a central plot point in the Transformers: Cyberverse animated series and was inspiration for his Age of the Primes figure.
