Creature mode

A creature mode (クリーチャーモード) is any state a Transformer can find themself in between robot mode and alternate mode. It is a collection of forms accessible to a Transformer through selective use of their transformation system. Creature modes double as attacks and occasionally have their own names.

Dirge and Thrust have access to Flying Shot. It involves them partially transforming back from machine mode to robot mode to become planes with limbs.

While in beast mode, Lio Convoy was startled by Tasmania Kid and drew a gun on him by freeing his right robot mode arm from his beast mode. After not shooting his own soldier, the two travelled on together and encountered Galvatron. In response to being bitten by the lion head on Lio Convoy's shoulder in the ensuing fight, Galvatron switched tactics to rely on his creature modes, starting with Dragonarm (ドラゴンアーム). By unfolding his robot arms, they became twice as long and could be used to lift Lio Convoy up high and smack him down. Needing to retaliate, Lio Convoy swiveled his legs to their lion position so that his reversed knee allowed him to reach higher with his foot and kick Galvatron in the face. To that, Galvatron answered by exchanging his robot legs for his dragon legs to attack with Dragonleg (ドラゴンレッグ), shooting Lio Convoy at close range with the Galvatling Cannons. As Tasmania Kid came to his leader's aid, Galvatron brought his legs together to form the Galdrill (カルドリル) and in the form of a humanoid drill made a hole in Tasmania Kid's torso big enough to remove it from its limbs. Infiltrate the Mystery Island! While Lio Convoy continued to fight Galvatron, Tasmania Kid's torso was found by Scuba. Not a medic, he could still reattach Tasmania Kid's legs enough that the other could bring his feet together to regain access to his Tasmanian devil nose and follow the scent of Angolmois Energy. After making some discoveries, they reunited with Lio Convoy just as he gained the upper hand over Galvatron. The latter attacked him in his drill tank mode with the legs, arms, and wings of his dragon mode out, but Lio Convoy bit and punched his way to victory. Free the Captured Matrix!

At the start of their fight on Nemesis, Galvatron took on his Dragonarm to attack Lio Convoy, but the Maximal grabbed his arms to swing him around instead. Win the Battle of Light and Darkness! When the end of the fight left him stranded on an unknown planet, Lio Convoy stayed in lion mode to explore but did free his left robot mode arm from his beast mode to check on his space-time coordinate computer once its self-repair had finished. The Beast Wars "Neo" Begin!!!

Notes

• The term "creature mode" is only used in "Infiltrate the Mystery Island!" and intermediary modes are extensively used in its story. The only modes explicitly identified as creature modes are Galvatron's named ones, but the explanatory text states that "the midway transformation form is called "creature mode"" (変身途中の形態は「クリーチャーモード」と呼ばれている Henshin tochū no keitai wa「kurīchā mōdo」to yoba rete iru) without saying anything about Galvatron specifically. As there's no fundamental difference between, say, Galvatron's robot mode with dragon legs and Lio Convoy's robot mode with lion legs, there's no reason to assume "creature mode" only applies to Galvatron's intermediary modes.
