The Scramble City combiners started as four 5-member teams created for the Diaclone line. The basic premise was that these combiners could be assembled in multiple ways, even interchanging components from different teams.

Though there is no "correct" combination, the limb robots do have correct and incorrect transformations and orientations in their limb modes, which Hasbro, Takara, and various license holders sometimes get wrong..

What is "correct"

For its arm mode, all Scramble City limbs, when correctly transformed into an arm, are the same length measured from the bottom of the arm (not including the fist) to the peg that connects it to the combiner core. The difference between correctly and incorrectly transforming an arm is whether or not the limb bot's legs are extended. Which position is correct depends on the mold.

For the legs, there are four possible orientations (chest facing to the front, back, inside, or outside). The correct orientation will have the foot plate in line with the foot plate from any other correctly oriented limb bot in leg mode. A limb mot with it's chest facing towards the outside or center of the combined form is never correctly oriented, the feet will not line up if one leg has two holes too choose from and the other only has one. This means the correct orientation either has the chest at the front or back of the combined robot.
