Safeguard is a symmetrical-style <A title=Combiner

href="http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Combiner">combiner</A>, <A title="Omega Supreme (Energon)" href="http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Omega_Supreme_(Energon)">one of</A> <A class=mw-redirect title="Cybertronian Empire" href="http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Cybertronian_Empire">the first</A> instances of such in Transformers (though Takara had already used the concept extensively in <I>King of <A title=Brave href="http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Brave">Braves</A> GaoGaiGar</I>). Jetfire forms his right half, while Jetstorm forms his left half.

He has a rather frustrating problem that his crouch won't stay assembled

in gestalt form.

  • Jetfire and Jetstorm's fire/ice theme has its roots in some of the

earliest concepts of Animated. <A class=new title="Sean Galloway" href="http://tfwiki.net/w2/index.php?title=Sean_Galloway&action=edit">Sean Galloway</A>, who had been commissioned to do early concept work for the series, revealed several pieces of this concept art long before the "final" <A title="Derrick J. Wyatt" href="http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Derrick_J._Wyatt">Derrick Wyatt</A>-designed characters were shown. Among these images were a pair of "fire and ice" robots who have a few features that made it into the jet-twins' final designs.


  • In addition to the fire/ice theme, the twins' method of combination is an

intentional homage on Wyatt's part to Hyōryu and Enryu/Chōryujin from the final installment of Takara's <A title=Brave href="http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Brave">Brave</A> Series, <I>King of Braves GaoGaiGar</I>.

  • In the early stages of the toy's development, the end of the twins'

combined vehicle mode was supposed to split apart and wings were supposed to slide out of the shins, so that the combined mode resembled an <A title="Luke Skywalker" href="http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Luke_Skywalker">X-wing fighter</A><SUP class=reference id=cite_ref-0><A title="" href="http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Safeguard_(Animated)#cite_note-0">[1]</A></SUP>; however, this did not appear in the released instructions.
