Summary

It's New Year's Day and Tokyo's Shinjuku district is on fire. Daniel, Chromedome, Artfire, Ricochet, Nightstick and, uh, Nightstick arrive on the scene and get to work rescuing trapped civilians and trying desperately to quench the blaze.

Just as they get started, though, the Decepticon Targetmasters (Slugslinger, Triggerhappy and Misfire), presumably the culprits behind the inferno, attack from the sky.

Things look bad until Battleship Maximus shows up and dumps thousands of gallons of water onto the fire, extinguishing the blaze.

With their primary concern now out of the way, Ricochet and Artfire "Target On" with Nightstick and Nightstick while Chrome does a "Head On" with his transtector to become Chromedome again. All three Autobots combine their firepower into the "Final Strike! Master Tactic Head-Target Cannon".

The blast sends the Decepticons into retreat, leaving the Autobots to tell Daniel he did a good job for some reason.

Notes

  • The Targetmasters were created during a once-in-a-lifetime fluke in Miraculous Warriors, Targetmasters (Part 1), where neither Ricochet, Artfire or their Targetmaster sidekicks were present. This continuity glitch was partly amended some years later via Ricochet's e-Hobby bio, explaining how he became a Targetmaster. Artfire's origin has yet to be revealed. Even with this explanation, however, unlike most other issues of The Headmasters, there's really no place in the animated series that this adventure can neatly be slotted into.
  • While the Targetmaster partners seen in the Headmasters cartoon all spoke in a language of boops and beeps, both Nightstick and Nightstick speak everybody else's language to the point of being chatterboxes.
  • Too many Nightsticks? It's a long, boring and frustrating story. Reader's Digest version:
Artfire's Targetmaster partner was named Nightstick in Japan. Ricochet's Targetmaster partner was named Nebulon in Japan. When Ricochet was released in the US, Nebulon's name was changed to "Nightstick". With Artfire's Nightstick having never been released in the US where he would have (presumably) received a new name, we are stuck with two Autobot Nighsticks and one Decepticon Nightstick. This is college thesis-quality stuff here, people.
