Cold Slither is a song from the Generation 1 continuity family.

If you turn on a radio while you're with the Autobots, it's extremely likely that you'll hear a particular piece of synthesized guitar rock playing. This composition's name, according to some sources, is "Cold Slither".

Generation 1 cartoon

Jazz was first to display a fondness for "Cold Slither", bringing up the tune on his radio in the midst of the "Autobot Run" charity race to serve as driving music and playing it throughout the race. The Autobot Run

"Cold Slither" was a big hit with the Dancitron crowd, so much so that it was almost all that the club played. Auto-Bop

Spike, Carly and Blaster attended a rock concert, where the band played "Cold Slither" (and another song at the same time) amid a seizure-inducing light show. Blaster transmitted the tune to the other Autobots. Cosmos found it exciting, and Jazz enjoyed it as well, but the rest found it to be a bunch of noise. Blaster Blues

The song by itself proved to be repellent to the mechanical Morphobot plants, which pulled away from the sound of it. Blaster was able to use this to the Autobots' advantage; by blasting the song through his speakers, he cleared a path through the alien plants to rescue a stranded Cosmos. Quest for Survival

Trivia

  • "Cold Slither" originated on the G.I. Joe cartoon, where it was both the name of a rock group put together by Cobra in one of their most insidious (and topical, for the mid-80s) schemes, and their eponymous breakout hit. The Dreadnoks portrayed the band members and lip-synced a song (penned by the multi-talented Destro) containing subliminal messages. Upon hearing it, the listeners, including G.I. Joe team members Breaker, Shipwreck, and Footloose, were under Cobra's power.
  • Like much of G.I. Joe's stock background music, it was recycled for The Transformers, minus the lyrics, serving as one of two generic source music tracks during the cartoon's run (although the second, more frequently-played tune, a big-band number of synthesized guitars and trumpets, dates back another year or two to Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, at least).
  • Though the song as played in The Transformers was always instrumental, "Cold Slither" does have lyrics . . . and they're awesome:

We're cold slither
You'll be joining us soon
A band of vipers
playing our tune

With an iron fist
and a reptitle hiss
we shall rule!

We're tired of words
We've heard it before
We're not gonna play the game no more

Don't tell us what's right
Don't tell us what's wrong
Too late to resist
Cause Cobra is strong

We're cold slither
Heavy metal machine
Through the eyes of a lizard
In you will dream

When the venom stings
A new order brings
Our control
