Hail and Farewell

Hail and Farewell is a Transformers: Mosaic strip, written by Simon Furman and drawn by Steve Buccellato. It takes place two years on from the main IDW series and stars Hunter O'Nion. It contains spoilers.
As well as foreshadowing upcoming events, the strip reveals Hunter's family backstory: namely, his parents are dead, his sister has left, and he stayed at home with his alcoholic mother until her death, remaining sane only by his sci-fi/fantasy dreams of something happy. (And Verity Carlo thinks she has an angsty background...)
Continuity foreshadowing
- Hunter and Sunstreaker remain a Headmaster pair after Devastation and achieve a mental overlapping.
- Hunter travels to other worlds and another dimension. (This could possibly be a reference to Furman's original Revelation/Expansion plans)
- Hunter fights Scorponok and lives. Devastation issue 6
- Sunstreaker and Hunter will ally themselves with the Dinobots. Maximum Dinobots
- There will be a full-scale Decepticon invasion of Earth. All Hail Megatron Though due to the revelation of the lack of collaboration or communication between Furman and All Hail writer Shane McCarthy [1], it is highly likely that the full scale invasion referred to in Hail and Farewell was a different event of Furman's writing.
Trivia
- When Furman originally posted this Mosaic strip on his blog (see below), he said it was emphatically canon to the then-in-progress Infiltration/Escalation/Devastation series. At the time, Furman was apparently unaware that his future plans for Revelation and Expansion had been cancelled by IDW in favour of Shane McCarthy's All Hail Megatron series, so IDW soon said that Hail and Farewell wasn't canon. However, as nothing yet contradicts the childhood given for Hunter, TFWiki.net is counting at least this bit as canon.
Errors
- Hunter turns into the same type of head as the Machination's Headmasters; in Devastation he turns into a replica of Sunstreaker's original head. This was due to the fact that at the time Buccellato was drawing "Hail and Farewell", the relevant issue depicting Sunstreaker's headmaster head had not yet been released.
