Cliff's best friend Spike Witwicky had missed the whole fall semester. But during winter break, he was reunited with his old buddy and planned a ski trip to California's Sierra Nevada Mountains. Cliff had made some exciting but difficult discoveries about himself during Spike's absense, and was eager to tell Spike about them, but his friend fell asleep in the car while Cliff recounted his hard-fought battles over his identity.
Spike was startled awake, screaming, during this one-sided discussion. Cliff thought Spike was insulting his driving ability, but he explained that it was merely a bad dream. A bad dream he did not wish to discuss.
