Omniverse
The Omniverse (from Latin: omne all, everything; vertere to turn) is the totality of known or supposed universes, including all universes in the Transformers multiverse and all other universes or multiverses that can, have or will exist.
Simply put, the Omniverse contains everything that has ever been thought of; there are worlds where Batman is real, worlds where the Loch Ness Monster is Mayor of New York City and worlds where convex right angles have achieved sentience and write outlandish allegorical science-fiction stories about higher-dimensional bipeds living in Victorian England.
Primus dreams of one day joining the the Omniversal Matrix, beyond the borders of the Transformers multiverse.
Functional Infinity
The Omniverse is vast, beyond counting. Though some believe that the Omniverse contains an infinite number of universes-- the most widely accepted definition of the Omniverse's scale was given by Robert A. Heinlein in 1979. The Omniverse contains 666 universes... that's 10,314,424,798,490,535,546,171,949,056, or 10^28 universes. Written out, the Omniverse contains ten octillion three hundred fourteen septillion sour hundred twenty four sextillion seven hundred ninety eight quintillion four hundred ninety quadrillion five hundred thirty five trillion five hundred forty six billion one hundred seventy one million nine hundred forty nine thousand fifty-six universes.
Though finite, this is a truly vast number. The Transformers Multiverse is an above-average sized chunk of this... about one trillionth of the Omniverse.
Multiverses
A Multiverse is a subset of within the universe which are connected by a common anchor, axis or hub that runs through multiple universes, joining these worlds together like pieces of popcorn on a string.
Also like popcorn, it is possible for a universe to contain multiple anchors, making it a member of more than one multiversal set.[1][2]
Prominent Multiverses
This is a list of prominent multiverses. It is not a complete list; examples have been chosen for their size, cultural footprint, degree to which the structure of their Multiverse is documented, and relevance to Transformers.
- The Transformers multiverse[3]
- Size: ~15,000,000,000,000,000 universes
- Common anchor: Cybertron, "stable axis of the multiverse"
- Notes: Appears to include† all fiction published under the Transformers, G.I. Joe, Inhumanoids, Jem and the Holograms, G.I. Joe Extreme, Battle Beasts, Action Man, M.A.S.K. and Challenge of the GoBots[4]. It may-or-may-not also include Micronauts.
- † It's possible that virtually every Hasbro toy brand is part of the Transformers multiverse, but as time goes by and there is no sign of Visionaries or that one toyline with air bladders[name needed] this seems increasingly unlikely.
- The Marvel multiverse
- Size: 1,000,000,000+ universes[5]
- Common anchor: The M'Kraan Crystal
- Notes: Includes Earth-84217, part of the Transformers multiverse.
- The DC multiverse
- Size: 52 universes[6]
- Common anchor: The Orrery of Worlds / Earth
- The Wildstorm multiverse
- Size: 196,833 universes
- Common anchor: The Snowflake (specific anchor point unknown)
- The Stephen King lexicon
- Size: Unknown (possibly up to several hundred parallel universes)
- Common anchor: The Keystone Tower
Footnotes
- ↑ Earth 50 is simultaneously part of the DC Multiverse's set of 52 universes, and the Wildstorm Snowflake's set of 196,833 universes.
- ↑ Is is suspected (but not confirmed) that Earth-120185 may be a member of both the Marvel and Transformers Multiverses.
- ↑ Arguably a misnomer, since this multiverse contains more than just Transformers, but Transformers is the largest element, and virtually the only one to deal with the multiverse aspect.
- ↑ Hasbro does not own the copyright to GoBots fiction. But as increasingly explicit references to GoBots properties appear in Transformers fiction with no challenge from the copyright holder, the copyright on GoBots appears to have been been abandoned.
- ↑ Reed Richards scans one billion universes before he's satisfied he's achieved a representative sample, Dark Reign: Fantastic Four #4
- ↑ At present.
