The Swarm is a horde of horribly mutated insect-like robots created by the Decepticons, stalking about the surface of Cybertron looking for victims to devour.

The Swarm were a side-effect of the Decepticon's attempts to create the Insecticons, and their existence was seen as horrific torture by Thundercracker. The process created one successful Insecticon for every thousand Swarm clones, with the Swarm growing to be three thousand strong All Hail Megatron issue 7 before being dumped to scamper around on Cybertron. Hot Rod stated he and his crashed crew were lucky to avoid the Swarm. All Hail Megatron issue 5 Bowing to narrative effect, two of the Swarm chose that very day to walk over to the Autobot's temporary base, but were taken out by Drift and Perceptor with relative ease. However, these were apparently scouts, with a much larger force on the way. All Hail Megatron issue 6
The Autobots retreated to a fallback position All Hail Megatron issue 7, forcing the Swarm into a bottle-neck in hopes they could pick them off more easily (or at least increase their chances of survival a bit). They planned to detonate bombs on the only bridge that crossed the large chasm in front of their base, but this tactic was ruined when one of the Swarm got off a successful shot on the retreating 'Bots and put Perceptor out of action. This forced Sunstreaker to sacrifice himself by manually blowing the bridge. All Hail Megatron issue 8 The Swarm then began scuttling over the chasm and engaged in a brutal battle with the Autobots, hopelessly outnumbering them.
