The Battle for Planet Earth is a series of 4 audio-only adventures. All 4 stories take place in the same continuity, one after another, over a period of a few weeks. Pickwick International were Ladybird's collaborator on the audio adaptations of their books, and "The Battle for Planet Earth"' includes the same opening theme music as the Ladybird tapes. Unlike the Ladybird audio adaptations, these 4 adventures don't feature a full cast of actors, instead having Ladybird narrator Peter Marinker voice all the characters.

Stories

Terror of Mount Sheela

The Autobots (Optimus Prime, Sideswipe, Gears, Huffer and Jazz) and their human friends John and Tim investigate a volcano in South America to see if they can use it for power. The Decepticons (Megatron, Soundwave, Buzzsaw, Rumble, Laserbeak, Skywarp and Starscream) follow to learn what they are up to. The Decepticons try to capture the humans to learn about the volcano. Suspecting the volcano will soon errupt the humans get the Autobots to retreat, leaving the Decepticons to be trapped in a lava flow. Only Laserbeak, who was airborne at the time of the eruption, escapes, and is sent to get other Decepticons to dig out his allies.

Trivia

  • Soundwave and Starscream are mis-identified as "Soundwarp" and "Starshriek" at one point.
  • Laserbeak, Buzzsaw and Ravage speak in this story.

Bumblebee to the Rescue

The Autobots learn from a news broadcast that the able-bodied population of a small town vanished overnight, with reports of giant robots and jets from the people who remained. The Autobots suspect this is the work of the Decepticons. The Autobots decide to send Bumblebee to slip into the Decepticon headquarters. Once Bumblebee sneaks in he discovers the humans kept as slaves by the Decepticons. He also notices a computer used by the Decepticons which is vital to their being able to adapt to the Earth, and steals a vital crystal component. Making his way back to the Ark Bumblebee tell all to his fellow Autobots. Optimus Prime contacts Megatron and demands the release of the humans in exchange for the crystal, without which the Decepticons will slowly die. Megatron agrees and erases the memories of the slaves, then releases them.
