Female Autobots

The Female Autobots are a team with a rather self-explanatory designation in the Generation 1 continuity family.

Amazon Autobots on Beta Moon?

The Female Autobots are a team of female Transformers that made its debut in the Generation 1 episode "The Search for Alpha Trion". In that appearance, it was an Autobot resistance group stationed on Cybertron under the command of Elita One. In its cancelled return to fiction in the Dreamwave comics however, the team was working for the Quintessons.

Members

The team as it originally appeared consisted of six members. Later fiction has thus far always omitted the two unnamed ones and often times placed Arcee among the group's ranks.

Given his supportive role to the team in the cartoon, Alpha Trion might be considered a member in that continuity as well.

Fiction

Generation 1 cartoon

The Female Autobots were destroyed by a missile strike during the Ark's launch. Or so everyone thought...

Skip four million years into the future. By 1985, they have formed a resistance group on Cybertron, operating in secret. Shockwave discovered their continued existence (thanks to Moonracer) and tracked them back to their underground headquarters. A subsequent attempt by the Decepticons to capture Elita One resulted in the destruction of said headquarters, but also a reunion with the Autobots stationed on Earth.

Once the Decepticons were dealt with, the Female Autobots relocated to a new secret headquarters provided by Alpha Trion and chose to remain on Cybertron to continue the fight there. The Search for Alpha Trion

MC Axis mini-comics

The team had taken out a humongous Decepticon and Moonracer boasted about their success, claiming that they alone could retake Cybertron. Only Elita One didn’t share in her team’s exultation as she knew they were only hiding and that the war was wearing them out.

At another time, Arcee showed off to Firestar and Moonracer how 'badass' she is by taking out a Decepticon the other two hadn’t even noticed yet. She then continued to berate them that war seemed to be too tough for females in particular. Firestar was horrified at realizing that three beautiful women were at three times as much risk. Dreamwave Comics continuity

The "Female Autobots" were an elite squad of warriors under the command of the Quintessons. Arcee functioned as a sleeper agent of theirs. Generation One issue 11

Dreamwave filed for bankruptcy and stopped producing Transformers books right as the Female Autobots arc was beginning.

Unnamed members

In addition to the better known four Female Autobots, the team as it originally appeared had two more members. Both have no name, got no lines and apart from their looks, there isn't much known about them. Within the cartoon, they seem to fulfill a more supportive/defensive role for the team, though they fight when it is required of them. They can often be seen standing or working together, so one could conclude they're friends.

Green female

She tried to board the Ark with Elita One and the others, but failed and was thought destroyed until four million years later.

She could be seen manning a series of monitors in the team's original headquarters when Chromia and co. returned from their mission. When their base had been destroyed, she and her orange colleague freed Moonracer from the debris. Sticking with the rest of the team, she did her share in the fight against the Decepticons and could again later be seen manning a series of monitors in the team's new base.

Orange female

She's purple and orange, like Huffer. And she doesn't do much, like Huffer. She's the only member of Elita One's squad that is not present in the flashback of the Ark's launch and generally has the least screentime of all Female Autobots (mostly with her back turned to the camera when she's not in the background or obscured by someone else). She also has the least consistent design of all of them.

The orange one could be seen looking at a clipboard in the team's original headquarters when Chromia and co. returned from their mission. When their base had been destroyed, she and her green colleague freed Moonracer from the debris. Along with the rest of the team, she did her share in the fight against the Decepticons and could later be seen manning a series of monitors all the way in the back of the team's new base.

Trivia

• The Female Autobots were the brand's first female Transformers, though they were not its first female Cybertronians. Or its first female robots for that matter.
• The Club Udon special edition cover to G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers: The Art of War issue 2, which is dedicated to the ladies of the two brands, surprisingly features what appears to be the orange female with the green female's colors. Possibly, one (or both) of them also exist in the Joe/Transformers continuity.
• The Female Autobots were present in the season 3 chain of command chart published in TV Magazine's Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers 2010 story pages. Part 3
• Had Dreamwave not gone bankrupt, the Female Autobots (i.e. the main four) would have received MTMTE profiles in the Generation One 2004 Datatracks Annual.
