Crankcase is a human and member of G.I. Joe from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Crankcase, real name Elwood G. Indiana, is a automobile expert who has been constructing cars since he was thirteen and racing them since he was sixteen. Eventually, even the thrill of racing wasn't enough for him, so he joined G.I. Joe for some real action.

Following G.I. Joe's destruction of Bumblebee, Crankcase examined his parts, but found them to be stranger than anything he had ever seen in a car before. Power Struggle Shortly afterwards, G.B. Blackrock arrived at Fort Lewis and explained to Crankcase and Mainframe that the destroyed robot was one of the "good guys". Although Crankcase thought it sounded pretty crazy, Blackrock had some impressive credentials, and the Joes chose to believe him. Along with Mainframe, Crankcase managed to reactivate Bumblebee's intact "brain", revealing that the Autobot was still alive. Ashes, Ashes...
