Power Station Alpha is the prototype for a United States government-created mobile, convertible aircraft/drill/rocket that will solve Earth's energy problems. The Decepticons, aided unwittingly by Cobra, aim to use its abilities to destroy Earth.

In the wake of the incidents involving Bumblebee and Superion, Shockwave used the confusion to his advantage and took control of the station remotely via a Cerebro Shell implanted in the machine by Bombshell.
Unfortunately for him, Dr. Mindbender was able to wrest control away from Shockwave via a helmet he created. The Joe Team dispatched a unit in order to intercept it, only for the interception team to be delayed by a flight of Cobra Rattler planes, one of which opened fire on a cruise liner. Whereas the Joes had been winning the battle, they were forced to allow Alpha to be captured in order to save the sinking ship.
The whole battle was observed by Dirge and Bombshell, who followed Alpha to Cobra headquarters rather than let Cobra have it all to themselves. They were cut short when Dr. Mindbender instead proposed an alliance, which was really a delaying tactic so that he could plant a homing beacon on Dirge. Alpha was left in Cobra's possession while the two mechs returned to base in order to get approval from Megatron. Power Struggle
