Battle Android Troopers are mass-produced androids used to fill out Cobra's ranks. Cheap and easily replaced, B.A.T.s are pretty popular among the higher-ups since they never question orders or demand pay or annoying stuff like that. On the other hand, they're pretty dumb, so they're usually just used to wear G.I. Joe down before actually skilled troops are sent in.

Several years later, Cobra Commander led an army of B.A.T.s in an attack on Area 52. They were easily swept aside by G.I. Joe's battle mechs, but their ability to combine with each other and the nearby S.N.A.K.E.s into Cobratron proved a tad more difficult to overcome. The B.A.T.s were all but wiped out when the Autobots joined the battle, but it turned out their attack was just a distraction anyway. The Art of War issue 1
