This article is about the bounty hunter/pirate from Cybertron. For the Triple Changer from Generation 1, see Astrotrain (G1).

Astrotrain is a Decepticon in the Cybertron portion of the Unicron Trilogy.

Women be different from men. Word.

Astrotrain is a cunning bounty hunter who has only joined the Decepticon army to increase his own power. Although he is ultimately loyal only to himself, he does work from time to time with the space pirate Cannonball. He also commands a small crew of Mini-Cons; his partner Starcatcher, and the team of Astro-Hook, Astro-Line and Astro-Sinker.

Awesomeness.
Astrotrain was originally an unproduced Universe store exclusive named Spacewarp, an Armada Jetfire redeco in a gray and purple color scheme that was a (very) loose homage to Generation 1 Astrotrain. He was to come with a redeco of the Space Mini-Con Team as well. No retail chain ended up wanting to carry the exclusive, so Spacewarp was shelved. He was among several proposed exclusives that were ultimately put into retail limbo during the waning of the Universe line.
The toy is currently planned to be the first exclusive available for purchase to Transformers Fan Club members, with the name changed as the trademark to "Spacewarp" could not be obtained. He will have a new head inspired by Generation 1 Astrotrain, and certain elements of Spacewarp's deco may be altered, pending voting results from members of the club. He comes with his Mini-Con partner Starcatcher, plus a redeco of the Giant Planet Mini-Con Team named Astro-Hook, Astro-Line, and Astro-Sinker. Astrotrain retains the electronics from the original retail version, uncommon among such low-run collector exclusive toys.
In addition to the Mini-Cons, Astrotrain comes with an exclusive illustrated text story.

Trivia

  • According to Fun Publications staffers, Astrotrain was chosen as their first exclusive specifically due to the clamor for the original Spacewarp.
