Generation 1 cartoon continuity

Flattop, Outback, Pipes, Tailgate and Subsea all were cadets at the academy. In days past, it was tradition for Autobots-to-be to undergo a "trial by fire" in the Underworld, a lower level of Cybertron infested with dangerous creatures. That tradition ended around the time the Ark was launched, but Flattop persuaded Tailgate and Subsea to join him in resurrecting it. Predictably, it didn't end well, costing the academy cadets Flattop and Subsea. Underworld!
