Lopez and Daniel Klonowski were among the soldiers who patrolled the ruins of New York City for any left-behind alien robots. As the two searched for an alien who had been detected in the vicinity, Lopez brought up something he had heard from Collins: supposedly, the "car robots" (at least the street-legal ones) were actually good guys, and only the "plane robots" were evil. Three years later, Lopez was among the Skywatch operatives under colonel Gordon Horiuchi, who had organized a secret alliance between his Skywatch unit and the "car robots". He was stationed at their Phillips base, where he allocated energy for Horiuchi's use until he was discovered and transferred to a surveillance team for questionable activities. That was actually a lucky break for Lopez, as Skywarp assaulted the Phillips base shortly afterwards. The Gift Horse
