Soundwave's Status

Since most of them were wiped out in this issue, the only major change done here is that Soundwave becomes his second-in-command.

As of the end of this issue, as far as the reader knows, Soundwave is dead, and Scorponok is still staring out the window of the Ark; he hasn't gotten around to rebuilding his cadre yet. The point at which it becomes apparent that Soundwave is A) not dead and B) Scorponok's second-in-command, is several issues later (#54 or later, I think). Therefore, as I see it, the sentence above is misleading if not outright wrong — the "major change" in question isn't done here at all. I think the sentence should be cut. The change never explictly happens anywhere, though -- we are only eventually informed of it after the fact a year or so later. There's no inherently better place TO mention this change. And there's no reason Items of Note have to refer ONLY to things that happened on-panel, in this issue, as if no future issues have come out yet. We KNOW Soundwave survives -- the notes shouldn't pretend otherwise. There are already notes here indicating more characters may have died than are shown on-panel, because of what future issues have shown or told us. Similarly, it makes most sense to refer to Soundwave's status here, because this issue caused the change in status (the merging of all Decepticons of Earth) which led to Soundwave being named Scorponok's second-in-command BTS at some unplaceable later point. It's forward-looking in nature, but I don't see what's so wrong about that.
If it makes you feel better, we could change "done here" to "made by this union", so that it doesn't sound like Soundwave's status changed in the issue itself. --Xaaron 05:29, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
I agree with JW. Soundwave is NOT upgraded to second-in-command in this issue. He DIES in this issue. (He gets better.) --ItsWalky 05:30, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
I feel I should also add that we don't even know that he was second-in-command at all, after this issue. I've skimmed through my US issues, and no where does it say he's second-in-command. He's a prominent Decepticon once he re-emerges in #61, and he has some position of authority during Civil War 2 ten issues later, but how do we know that Mindwipe wasn't Scorponok's second-in-command up until he deserted? We don't even see Soundwave for like a dozen issues. There's a long stretch of time in which it's Scorponok's Nebulan folks who do the only talking to him. --ItsWalky 05:46, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
I WILL FIGHT YOU TIL THE ENDS OF THE EARTH! ...Nah, kidding. I concede. --Xaaron 16:23, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Defecting Decepticons?

I definitely recall Triggerhappy and Mindwipe, but when did Thrust and Dirge change sides due to Starscream's presence? --Banjo oz 11:52, 28 June 2010 (EDT)
