Optimus's attempt to make amends with Blackarachnia is interrupted by a running battle between Blackout and Safeguard.
Summary
In the streets of Detroit, Optimus is taken by surprise by Blackarachnia, who traps him from the neck down in webbing. She informs him that she plans to use the key on her body. Optimus says he won't let "Elita-1" do that. Blackarachnia becomes enraged at the sound of her old name and demands Optimus explain why he left her to die.
Optimus says that he and Sentinel immediately formed a search party to rescue her, but were never able to find her. She is hesitant to believe him, until Optimus breaks free, grabs her hands and vows to do whatever it takes to help her restore her body.
Blackarachnia is moved by Optimus's vow, until suddenly Blackout swoops in, transforms and lands directly on Optimus's head! Blackarachnia asks him what he's doing there, and Blackout explains that two pesky Autobots have been tailing him.
Right on cue, Jetfire and Jetstorm swoop in, informing Blackout that he cannot run or escape. The twins attack him gleefully, amused that despite their puny size, they are effective against Blackout because he's too big. They then combine into Safeguard and go toe-to-toe with the Decepticon. Bumblebee, helping Optimus out of the rubble, wonders who the new robots are. Optimus recognizes them as the Elite Guard.
Watching the battle from a distance, Lugnut seizes Blackarachnia by the arm and declares that the battle has become to hazardous and they must retreat. Blackarachnia asks what'll become of Blackout, and Lugnut informs her that he is not a priority.
As they zoom off into the sky, Optimus calls after "Elita-1", repeating his vow to help her find a cure. Solemnly, Blackarchnia tells him never to call her by that name again.

Blackarachnia: That name! Don't call me by that-- [pauses] Tell me why you didn't come looking for me! Tell me why!
Optimus: But...but we couldn't find you...Sentinel and I. We immediately formed a search party...I--
Blackarachnia: SHUT UP!!!

Jetfire: [sings] We are elite!

Blackarachnia: Lugnut? [glances at the robot rumble between Blackout and Safeguard] What about Blackout?
Lugnut: [grabs Blackarachnia and transforms]The best interests of our glorious Emperor of Destruction are our ONLY priority!
Optimus: Wait, Elita-1! I...WE can find help together! Don't go!
Blackarachnia: [solemnly] Don't call me by...that name.
- -Lugnut retrieves Blackarachnia and flies away, while Optimus tries to play Romeo
Notes
- "Along Came a Spider" is required viewing for details on Blackarachnia's origin.
- So Optimus is willing to do whatever it takes to help Blackarachnia find a cure...but won't let her use the key?
- In issue #2, Starscream announced that Megatron was dead (though Megatron's head was shown to have secretly survived, ala the cartoon). How does Lugnut know Megatron is still alive?
- Lugnut refers to Megatron as his "Emperor of Destruction".
- Blackout based off his toy form, with the Earth helicopter alt. mode. He even has the disc launcher, which forms the back of the helicopter. Lugnut also has his toy form, as he has the round claw hands on the Voyager figure which form on the outside of the hand, unlike in-show, where he has square-like claws which come from the inside of his palm.
- Blackarachnia doesn't have the "lipstick" she does in the cartoon.
