Megatron (WFC)
| The name or term "Megatron" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Megatron (disambiguation). |
- Megatron is a Decepticon from the Transformers: Prime continuity family.

The Transformer designated D-16 took the legendary name Megatronus as his own and rose from the oppressed lower working castes of Kaon. Finding his true purpose and direction in the region's illegal gladiatorial games, he was redubbed Megatron by the crowds and rode his unmatched power and combat skills to fame and influence. Megatron's call for an upheaval of Cybertron's society, his insistance that the freedom of self-determination was the right of all sentient beings, drew many of the oppressed and dissaffected to his cause.
But power corrupts, and Megatron's revolution, like many such movements, quickly turned to tyranny. Powerful, charismatic, violent, and full of rage for any who would stand in the way of his ambition and drive it doesn't take Megatron and his Decepticon armies long to bring Cybertron to the brink of destruction.

In the first days of the war on Cybertron, Megatron begins research on a new type of Energon called Dark Energon for use to corrupt the core of Cybertron and take command. During this, he discovered that the one of the few places it was made was in a space station in orbit near Cybertron. He also found out that it was being guarded by a neutral force led by Starscream. With this knowledge, he boards a ship, gathers two of his soldiers Barricade and Brawl, and sends his forces to the space station.
While the army is attacking Starscream's forces, Megatron decides to take the direct approach, and rams his ship into the station. After demolishing the troops in the station, he finally reaches the control room, where Jetfire and Starscream himself stand. Jetfire tries to warn Megatron about the dangers of Dark Energon, but Starscream interrupts his little speech and asks to join forces with the Decepticon leader. Megatron asks what he has to offer (that is, something that he cannot simply steal), and Starscream answers that he knows how to manufacture Dark Energon, and reveals that there was a bridge that fed Dark Energon itself to the station. After Jetfire retreated to inform Zeta Prime, Megatron sent Starscream, Thundercracker, and Skywarp to reconnect the bridge.
After the bridge is reconnected, Megatron decides to attack Zeta Prime at his headquarters, and descends with Breakdown and Soundwave to Iacon. The trio sneaks in while Starscream battles Zeta's forces outside. They soon reach Zeta Prime himself, who projects a huge hologram of himself, and uses elements of the room (collapsing pillars) and smaller holograms of his size. They breach through these defenses, and Zeta lies buried under metallic rubble. Megatron picks him up and wounds him horribly, then snatches the Omega Key. However, Zeta informs him that that only activates the key, and that Megatron's spies were misinformed. He then speaks the cryptic message that the key will come to him...
Megatron boards yet another ship, with Soundwave and Breakdown at the controls, in search for the true Omega Key. Suddenly, the key (who shouts out his true name, Omega Supreme) knocks them out of the sky, causing them to crash-land back in Iacon. There, they take command of Autobot turrets (but not after killing the Autobots manning them) and shoot Omega Supreme down. Omega crashes into the ground, creating a huge crater. Megatron and his two companions jump down into the crater and attack the wounded Omega Supreme from there. He tries to recharge himself using Energon batteries, the three corrupt the batteries with Dark Energon, causing Omega Supreme's systems to crash. Megatron then takes control of Omega, using him to reach the core of Cybertron. Once there, he utilizes several corruptors and bombards the core with Dark Energon. Megatron then states to his comrades that with Dark Energon in the core, Cybertron will be under his control.
Later, Megatron discovers that with Cybertron corrupted, the Autobots have no choice but to leave Cybertron. Megatron sends a message to the new leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime, which also demonstrates the power of his orbital space station, which he armed with a massive cannon. Optimus sends his aerial commander Silverbolt to shut down the cannon. Megatron reveals that he has one last resort: his massive solder (massive as in Omega Supreme sized) Trypticon. Optimus and his troops defeat Trypticon, leaving Megatron without a large Decepticon ship.

Notes
- Megatron's designation as an energon miner was "D-16".[1] Megatron's original Japanese ID number was "16". Takara would eventually change the numbering system using a "D" to denote Destrons. So Megatron's Japanese ID number could retroactively be considered "D-16".
