Shortly before the AllSpark was hidden in space by Ultra Magnus, Sideways arrived from another dimension and joined the Decepticons. Land General Sideways was responsible for overseeing the Silvart War, where he was captured by Primal Major and prepared for transportation back to Cybertron on board the Axalon. Longarm Prime speculated that thanks to the General's Trans-Phase Generator, Sideways broke free of his restraints and sabotaged the engine, causing the Axalon and its crew to succumb to a black hole.

Since Sideways was never seen again, Longarm Prime suspects Sideways was trying to get to some place called "Shanghai", which he frequently mentioned. The AllSpark Almanac Volume 2

Animated Sideways is described as having the signature powers of the familiar pre-existing character. His body looks like Revenge of the Fallen Sideways with the paintjob of Armada Sideways. These clear visual continuity points are very similar to those used to establish that Sideways had "jumped" from the Unicron Trilogy into Generation 1. However, there is no absolute proof that after his arrival in Animated, Sideways ever followed through on his desire to visit Shanghai, nor which universe's Shanghai he might have visited. If one makes the conclusion that he did make that jump, he and the movie-continuity Sideways must be the same person; if not, not.
