Ashtray was among the Junkions that attacked the Autobots stranded on their planet, until the arrival of Hot Rod's party. The young Autobot's offering of the universal greeting and an energon goodie was well-received by the Junkions, who enthusiastically repeated the greeting.

During the fight against Unicron, Ashtray joined Junkyard's redecoed twin in making repairs on the Minnow after it had been blasted by the Chaos Bringer. The Transformers: The Movie
