On the planet Lithone, Arblus and Kranix were either friends with or the assistants to a scientist. The pair brought the scientist a couple of fluid-filled vials while he worked, although Kranix was the only one to do any carrying (lazy Arblus). Unfortunately, the building shook, sending the chemicals to the floor.
It wasn't seismic activity, however—running to a nearby window, the Lithones saw it was the menace they knew as Unicron! Kranix compelled his companions to get to the escape ships, but only the one he and Arblus were on managed to escape the pull of Unicron's gravity. After Lithone was destroyed, Kranix and Arblus somehow became prisoners on Quintessa, the home of the dreaded Quintessons and Sharkticons, where he was put to trial.
Not long thereafter, two other captives, Hot Rod and Kup, were being herded into cells just as Arblus's trial was reaching its end, and watched as he was sentenced and fed to the Sharkticons. The Transformers: The Movie

Arblus and Kranix were both running from a corrosive mist emitted by Unicron. Arblus was devoured by the mist, at which point Kranix transformed and escaped. The Planet-Eater!
Notes
- It is commonly believed that the unfortunate Lithone who cries out Kranix's name as he is dragged back into Unicron's maw during the destruction of the planet is Arblus. This is not an illogical assumption, given that, even in the original script for the movie, Arblus was to die in Unicron's attack on Lithone, although in this case, he was to be dissolved by acidic mist. In the finished animation, however, the Lithone who is consumed by Unicron can be briefly glimpsed through his ship's windshield, and is not Arblus, while Arblus himself is later seen on Quintessa.
- It is never revealed within the film how Arblus and Kranix ended up on Quintessa after escaping Unicron. A deleted line of dialogue explained that the Quintessons hunted down those who escaped the wrath of Unicron and put them on trial, with the sentence always being the same—death!
- The character model for Arblus features a spaceship mode that has yet to be used in any fictional depiction of him.
