Synopsis
[edit]
The Transformers AutoPuzzle and DeceptiQuiz Book encourages readers to "programme [their] braincircuits for a megaload of laserpowered puzzles", and "test [their] knowledge of the Transformers' world". A wide variety of different puzzles and quizzes are provided, the vast majority of which are illustrated using package art of Transformers figures available at the time, as well as some original illustrations.
Some of the puzzles are traditional fare, such as spot the difference, connect the dots, and crosswords. Others require the user to demonstrate pre-existing knowledge of the Transformers universe, for example identifying a line-up of Autobots from a series of headshots (with no clues given), or being able to explain "Who or what is Auntie?"

Notes
[edit]- As with other books produced in the UK during Generation 1, such as the Ladybird and Corgi titles, all of the original art produced for this book is based off the toy designs rather than animation models.
- Also in the same vein as those other books, this follows Hasbro UK's take on the Transformers universe, though this is much more evident here. All of the characters featured in this book are those available in the UK in 1985, so the Constructicons, Shockwave, Blaster and the like don't even merit a mention. Most notably the book repeatedly refers to the Dinobots as a four-robot team, omitting Swoop (this is even a trivia question).
- Most of the information presented is surprisingly accurate, though a few errors did slip in. A crossword puzzle lists one of the Autobots as "Snare". Laserbeak is said to be "Soundwave's main spy cassette" for some reason, and Skywarp is listed as being a purple jet rather than a black one.
- In the back pages of the book a second publication from Armada Paperbacks, The Transformers Data File, is advertised. Based on the description, this seems to be a collection of Tech Specs for various characters.
- The answers for the DeceptiQuiz II trivia shown above, as provided in the back of the book, are as follows:(1) Four - Grimlock, Slag, Snarl and Sludge (2) Optimus Prime (3) Reconnaissance and Communications (4) Red (5) Car (6) Prowl.
- The missing numbers in
Ted DansonRamjet's Cross number puzzle shown above are as follows: 30 x 2 = 60; 10 - 8 = 2; 40 - 10 = 30; 30 + 10 = 40; 2 + 8 = 10; 60 / 2 = 30
