Hytherion
- Hytherion is a monster from the Alternity portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
Also known as the "Beast of Time," Hytherion is a hyper-dimensional creature of immense power and destructive potential, capable of traveling freely throughout universal streams. Composed of the dimensionally-resonant material Alternium, Hytherion's natural sustenance is time itself. In particular, the beast has been known to savor devouring the origins of worlds and universes, a tendency which has seeded fear of it in countless universes where it is known as the "Origin Eater." Normally invisible and intangible to lower-dimensional beings, Hytherion is opposed by the enlightened protectors known as the Alternity, an evolved form of Cybertronian life. It is prophesied that the evil Megatron will lead the creature to destroy the Earth.

The Protector agent Cliffjumper was dispatched 2.4 billion years into the past to prevent Hytherion from feeding on a galaxy at the moment of its birth. Though the Alternity were unable to enter this time period themselves, Cliffjumper braved the dimensional turbulence and fired a marker weapon at the beast, which allowed the Alternity superweapon known as the "Sword of the Heavens" to strike at Hytherion through time. As a result, the eater of origins was banished from the time period. Ace of Swords
The Optimus Prime of Primax 109.0 Beta was recruited by his alternate self into the ranks of the Alternity in response to the imminent threat of Hytherion descending upon the Earth of that universal stream.From Here to Alternity
Hytherion was drawn to the Earth by the lurking transwarp ship of Megatron, who had studied the beast for some time and had lured it across the dimensions by broadcasting a temporal code that enticed it. Though the Convoy Corps of the Alternity responded swiftly to the threat against the defenseless world, Earth's destruction turned out not to be Megatron's goal. Rather, it was a ruse to get Hytherion within striking distance and enslave the creature, overwriting its higher functions in a gambit to ascend to the same hyper-dimensional state as the Alternity. Thus established as the great beast's master, the auto-avatars that Megatron had seeded on the world below sprung to life. To Mega Therion

- Hytherion's name appears to be a portmanteau of the mighty Titan Hyperion from Greek mythology and the Latin root word "theria-" ("beast").
- The (Milky Way) galaxy's age is estimated to be around 8.8 ± 1.7 billion solar years. So a galaxy being "2.4 billion years old" would either be a different galaxy or possibly 2.4 billion is the age of the our galaxy in Cybertronian years. Please mind that the last part would be conjecture, as the length of Cybertron's years has not been canonically defined.
