The Rock Bots were to have been an Autobot subgroup from the Generation 1 continuity family.

The Rock Bots are a mystery. But an awesome mystery.

Generation 1

The two known --121.120.189.239 07:56, 24 April 2011 (EDT)Rock Bots would have been sold together in a two-pack. One of them would have turned into a guitar, while the other one turned into an amplifier. In robot mode, they would have had rooted hair, simulating the type of hair worn by hair metal musicians (well, "hard rock bands") of the 1980s.

Notes

  • The Rock Bots were mentioned in conversation between Hasbro representatives Carl Fritz and Tom Bowman and the Hartman brothers during a lunch-meeting immediately prior to BotCon 1994. This moment was later recalled by Karl Hartman in an essay for Fumihiko Akiyama's unofficial BotCon Legends fan-magazine, page 32.
  • How far the concept actually got is uncertain, as is what era of the toyline they were meant to come out in. Presumably they were not meant for Generation 2, the extant toyline of 1994, as the type of music embodied by the Rock Bots was no longer popular by that time.
  • Whether the Rock Bots were to have been Autobots or Decepticons is not disclosed in the essay, but assumed by their group name ending in "Bot".
  • Though the parsing "Rock Bots" is used in the essay, given other Generation 1 subgroup names, it is possible they were in fact the "Rockbots".
