Transformers: The War Within

A six-part miniseries written by Simon Furman, depicting the beginnings of the Autobot/Decepticon war. It was successful enough to lead to two sequel series.
Artist Don Figueroa redesigned dozens of Generation 1 characters for the series, giving them 'Cybertronic' vehicle modes: the designs for Optimus Prime, Thundercracker, and Megatron were made into toys in the Titanium Series toylines, and Starscream's was adapted into Unicron trilogy Starscream's Cybertron form.
