Rodimus and Wheelie return to Cybertron and reunite with Ironhide and Sunstreaker, who have been busy fighting an old enemy.

Synopsis

Rodimus awakens, and is shocked to find that he's functioning even without the Matrix as a power source. He soon learns that while he was out, Wheelie repaired him and took the ship to their home, Cybertron. Knowing full well that Cybertron is a dead planet infested by the Insecticon swarm, Rodimus tries to convince his allies to leave again, but the Matrix has stopped providing power to their ship. Just as he fears, something does break into the ship... but it turns out to be Ironhide.

While Ironhide is glad to meet some old friends, Rodimus is absolutely boggled by the sight of both him and Sunstreaker, both of whom are supposed to be dead (not to mention seeing their freaky Insecticon pet). After a confused Garnak attacks Ironhide, Rodimus heads outside to have things explained to him from Sunstreaker. He learns the details of their apparent revival at the hands of Alpha Trion, but their chat is suddenly interrupted by an aerial attack. Rodimus and Wheelie go after their attacker and shoots him down, but as they approach the crash site, they find none other than Galvatron, using the Darkness to repair his injured Sweep.

Now really eager to get off Cybertron, Rodimus hurries back to the ship, which Ironhide and Sunstreaker are able to power up using the experimental fuel cell given to them by Alpha Trion. As the ship comes under attack from dozens of Sweeps, the Autobots blast off and set a course for Earth.

Notes

  • This story is named after Out of the Silent Planet, a 1938 science fiction novel by C.S. Lewis.
  • Despite the name change, Rodimus's license plate still says "Hot Rod".

Errors

  • This issue is given the title "Act 2" while the last one was "Part 1".
  • Garnak refers to the planet everyone was stranded on last issue as LV-118, but it was named LV-117 back in Spotlight: Wheelie. However, it was implied by Wheelie in the previous issue that he wasn't on the same planet he started on, so it's possible that the name change is intentional.
  • Sunstreaker knows Hot Rod as "Rodimus", despite not being present when he took on his new name.
