This article is about the Generation 1 Autobot Downshift. For the Energon Autobot Downshift, see Downshift (UT).

Downshift is an Autobot from Generation 1 continuity.

Downshift is smart, fast, and heavily armed. In the Autobots' covert S.T.A.R.S. program of asymmetric warfare, Downshift is an indispensable player. His mind works quickly and well in the thick of combat, but inaction makes him restless and uneasy. Order him to dart into a poorly guarded Decepticon base, wreak as much pulse-laser havoc as possible, and escape before he is detected, and he'll perform the mission with aplomb. Give him a quart of oil and a packet of Cybertronium to deliver, and he's likely to get distracted and lose it by the road.

Like Tracks, Downshift has a secondary flight mode, and it's well-armed, but not nearly the equal of a Decepticon jet.

Note: Downshift never received a tech spec or biography in the U.S. The above is based on his Japanese information, as presented in Neale Davidson's tech spec manual.
