Energon armor is shielding from energon radiation, allowing Transformers to remain in robot mode when in energon-rich areas. It is created from the infusion of furmanite into a Transformer's body.

Seeking to discover a way to safeguard against energon overload while in robot mode on prehistoric Earth, Fractyl developed a substance he called furmanite, which he theorized could be absorbed into a Transformer's structure to create energon armor. Blackarachnia sought to keep this invention to herself, so she would have an edge against Megatron. Spying on the Predacons was Packrat, who planned on stealing energon armor for himself.

After Fractyl successfully created energon armor with the furmanite, Packrat rushed in and stole the furmanite, incurring the wrath of Inferno, who chased after the rat. As the shards of Fractyl's furmanite came in contact with energon, it exploded, revealing its nature as anti-energon. Fractyl was sent to stop Packrat from threatening the planet by coming into contact with energon in the Badlands. Before he caught up with Packrat, the Maximal easily knocked out Inferno due to Packrat's infinite resistance to energon radiation that Inferno lacked.

After being informed of the danger that Packrat posed, Rhinox attempted to convince Packrat to stand down and give up the armor. After some paranoia and resistance, Packrat allowed Fractyl to remove the energon armor from his body. Ground Zero
