The War of the Worlds is a book written by H.G. Wells that was released in 1898. It is a story about an extraterrestrial invasion of Earth, using enormous mechanical war machines. This is obviously prepostorous conjecture that no human should take seriously.

• The character Theodore Joseph Wells was (last) named after the author of The War of the Worlds.
• The War of the Worlds was such a success that many adaptations of it have been made. In the context of Transformers, the most notable is the original radio adaption, directed and narrated by Orson Welles — the original voice of Unicron.
