Megatron found a way to refine raw Tox-En during the war. A sample, formerly held in the Vaults of Iacon, ended up on Earth where it was found by Bulkhead near a volcano at the equator. Deeming it too dangerous to leave intact, he sought to destroy it in the fiery depths of the volcano. Debilitated by the Tox-En's hazardous effect on his body and mind, Bulkhead gradually made his way up the volcano, followed every step of the way by Hardshell and a group of Insecticons. During a confrontation atop the solidified lava inside the volcano's crater, Bulkhead threw the Tox-En to Hardshell, who was immediately disoriented by the tainted Energon, falling into the volcano and dropping the Tox-En into the lava, destroying it.
