Cody Burns is a member of the Griffin Rock Lad Pioneer troop and owns a copy of the Lad Pioneers Handbook. Given the book is the 1959 edition, it's likely other members of his family were Lad Pioneers as well.

The Griffin Rock Lad Pioneer troop practiced for an annual celebration on Founders' Day. After Cody and the Bots became stranded on an uninhabited island, Cody used his Lad Pioneer knowledge to build a shelter and start a fire. Following their rescue and the recovery of the Settlers' Bell, Cody and the rest of the Lad Pioneer troop took part in the Founders' Day celebration. The Lost Bell
