Surge (event)

The Surge is an event from the IDW portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

The Surge was a major Decepticon offensive, and is considered one of the Five Dark Epochs of the Great War, ultimately leading to the near-extinction of the entire Transformer race.

IDW Generation 1 comics continuity

The Surge occurred when Megatron, in possession of Autobot access codes obtained by Bombshell from Hunter O'Nion, ordered the abandonment of the infiltration protocols and an all-out attack on all major Autobot outposts. Optimus Prime and his unit were able to turn the tide by incapacitating Megatron and driving the main Decepticon force from Earth, but not before the majority of Autobot outposts fell. Bullets Lacking strong leadership, the Decepticon advance then stalled.

Among the Autobot installations that came under attack were Garrus-9 Last Stand of the Wreckers issue 1 and possibly the Autobot Orbital Command Hub. Lost & Found Following the destruction of their home bases, many Autobots took refuge with Optimus Prime's forces on Earth. Ride-Along

The extent of the Surge was such that, even three years later, interstellar communications were still in something of a state of disarray, as the Autobots had no way of directly contacting Chief Justice Tyrest following Megatron's capture. Chaos Part One: Lamentations
