Firebugs are natives of the planet Furnacia. They have the ability to set fires and they feed on high temperatures. When their planet burnt out, they fled, with most of them landing on Thessin. Being an ice planet, Thessin did not make for a hospitable environment for them. They are believed by some to be extinct, but least one nameless Firebug survived.

A native of the planet Furnacia. Firebugs are lethal little critters that feed on high temperatures and combust matter. They've been a nomadic race since their homeworld burnt itself out. Last I heard, most of their number landed on the ice world of Thessin... ...with predictably disasterous results. For them, anyway! I thought they were all but extinct these days! A creature landed on Earth and proceeded to wreak havoc on a town near Mount St. Hilary. Three Autobots were nearby on a scouting mission from Cybertron. Sandstorm saw the smoke in the distance and decided to investigate. When he saw the town ablaze, he radioed the others for help. Inferno recognized the creature as a Firebug. With the help of Broadside, they captured the Firebug alive. In order to keep him from causing further destruction, they sent him to Mercury in a message pod. He seemed happy there. Firebug!
