Russia is a nation-state. It is the largest nation-state on Earth, stretching from Europe across Asia.

It used to be part of the Soviet Union, and the most dominant of its fifteen republics, but the band broke up in the early 1990s...we think.

Has its own military and political alliance called the CSTO - Collective Security Treaty Organization.

Nobody at the White House was able to confirm the Russians were controlling the robots that raided Harrison Nuclear Power Plant. Meanwhile, Moscow assumed the commotion was caused by the Americans testing their Star Wars arsenal. Prisoner of War!

Russia was one of the nations that the Pentagon believed could be responsible for hacking the US security network. During the resulting military escalations, Russian naval groups began to close in on US naval operations in the Yellow Sea. Prime cartoon

MECH used an energon signal to lure Bulkhead and Breakdown to a ghost town on the Kamchatka Peninsula and capture Breakdown. They attempted to disassemble Breakdown in an abandoned railway tunnel, but he was rescued by Bulkhead and the rest of the Autobots. Operation: Breakdown

Notes

• Escalation issue 3 refers to Brasnya as a "breakaway soviet state", which is corroborated by issue 4. While on first sight this may seem to imply that the Soviet Union still exists in the present-day setting of Escalation, issues 5 and 6 replace "soviet" with "Russian" and "breakaway" with "former", thereby apparently fixing a major world politics flub. Simon Furman later stated at the German C.O.N.S. convention in July 2012 that any references to "soviet" are to be considered an error and should read "Russian" instead.
• In the Cybertron episode, "Hidden", two Air Force jets are very similar in model to Thundercracker, but in a basic gray color scheme. However, the model of fighter jet is of Russian make, while the pilots are American.
